The Writing Strand requires students to compose a variety of written texts with a clear controlling idea, coherent organization, and sufficient detail. In the final reading cluster, Range of Reading and Level of Text Complexity, students read and comprehend complex and literary informational texts. Integration of Knowledge and Ideas is the third cluster in the Reading Strand where students evaluate content presented in diverse formats, trace and evaluate specific claims and arguments made in text and the validity of the arguments, and analyze how two or more texts address similar topics and themes. The second cluster in the reading strand is Craft and Structure where students interpret words and phrases, determine meaning and tone, analyze the structure of both literary and informational texts, and assess how point of view or purpose affects the content and style of a text.
